Can my house handle an EV charger?

Yes! As long as you have electricity, you can charge your electric vehicle. An electrician can install a Level 2 charger for a much shorter charging time, but technically any power outlet (which is a Level 1) will allow you to charge your car.

How much will it cost to charge an EV at home?

Depending on where you live and which energy provider you have, it should cost about $18.74 to charge an EV with your home electricity, with home electricity prices averaging at 31 cents per kilowat hour..

That’s around 25-60% less than you’ll be paying to use a public charger, which usually charge 40-60 cents per kilowat hour. 

Over time, the savings in cost will more than outweigh the cost of the charger installation, especially if you have multiple EVs or are planning to stay in your home long-term. Not to mention the cost of convenience.
