How Arconex can help:
Installing EV chargers at home
We’re all about making your life easier without compromising on the environment, which is why we’re so passionate about making EV ownership as convenient as possible.
Arconex has electricians who are professionally accredited EV installers for leading brands including My Energi, Ocular, ABB and Smappee. We also have programmable options to schedule your charger to power on just when you need it or when your solar panels are making free power. Smappee chargers, for example, can be set up to prioritise charging with solar power.
These chargers are compatible with:
BYD (Build Your Dream)
Cupra
Kia
Mini
MG
Nissan
Polestar
Tesla
Plus all other cars with a type 2 lead, for type 1, a simple adapter will enable charging.
Regardless of which electric vehicle you have, we can find a charger to suit your circumstance.
We install solar-powered EV chargers
Looking for a way to be extra-efficient? As long as your solar panels are providing enough energy to power your home, you’ll be able to use this power to charge your car.
Luckily, Arconex is your one-stop shop to help set this up.
Using solar power isn’t only great for the environment, it’s cost-effective, too. But, it is unpredictable and bad weather can mean you’ll be unable to get the energy to fully charge your EV. So, make sure you’re connected to the grid too. Just in case.
Thankfully, Smappee and Myenergi have chargers that can monitor your solar and grid usage, and redirect the excess solar power into your car, so it is not sent back to the grid for a few cents per kwh.
EV Level 1 chargers vs EV Level 2 chargers
While there are three types of EV chargers available, typically at home you’ll have either a Level 1 or a Level 2.
A Level 1 charger is just your typical powerpoint. Yes, you can charge an EV in a traditional outlet. But, the charging time will be very slow. You’ll typically need to leave your car plugged in overnight to get a significant charge.

EV chargers in apartment buildings and strata properties
Whether you’re living in a unit or managing a strata complex, Arconex is able to help you navigate your way to installing EV chargers at your property.
As parking garages are generally common property, you will need permission before installing an EV charger. It’s considered an upgrade to sustainability infrastructure and will require the owners corporation to vote on the matter.
Depending on the set-up of your building, you may run into concerns about how the costs of energy used by EVs will be allocated. Garage power outlets are usually common property and therefore energy used there would be part of the committee’s bill rather than yours as a tenant.
But, there are solutions for this! Smart technologies, like Smappee Infinity (which Arconex can help install), can measure individual usage.
FAQs
Can my house handle an EV charger?
Yes! As long as you have electricity, you can charge your electric vehicle. An electrician can install a Level 2 charger for a much shorter charging time, but technically any power outlet (which is a Level 1) will allow you to charge your car.
How much will it cost to charge an EV at home?
Depending on where you live and which energy provider you have, it should cost about $18.74 to charge an EV with your home electricity, with home electricity prices averaging at 31 cents per kilowat hour..
That’s around 25-60% less than you’ll be paying to use a public charger, which usually charge 40-60 cents per kilowat hour.
Over time, the savings in cost will more than outweigh the cost of the charger installation, especially if you have multiple EVs or are planning to stay in your home long-term. Not to mention the cost of convenience.
Having an EV ready property can increase the value and appeal.
